Protecting children in our streets
After I recently became the father of a lovely baby daughter I must admit that I have become increasingly concerned about the safety of my new born little Princess Arabella is her name. In particular since we live in a neighbourhood in Chelsea where the famous mostly arab ( no racism but fact here in SW3) boy racers with their lamborghinis and ferraris chase each other at ever higher speeds without the council ever doing anything. Indeed in my street just behind Harrods this summer two boy racer chasing each other lead to a major crash in our street in the middle of night resulting in two injured one seriously and 10 cars parked in the street damaged or destroyed. Yet the council has done nothing since. The FT arcticle suggests residents can now close down streets temporarily from traffic without asking for permission from the Council in order to convert them into pedestrian only street so the children can play. I think this is marvellous and if confirmed would be a wonderful opportunity for parents. It would allow more easily to organise play and sports as well as social interaction between residents. Throughout a beneficial affair we should try to implement across the UK and Europe indeed. I just hope this is as easy as it sounds in the article. I will follow up with the council here in Kensington and Chelsea.
